And only have a few days to return the g7. Such a pricy monitor shouldn’t be riddled with issues. But I would HATE it if a future game I played flickered like crazy. But running around in the beginning of RE2 makes the AW look really bad. The punchy contrast really shows even if it’s not a super dark game. The g7 overall picture quality just looks better. But I hate the panel lottery, and not sure how it is to deal with dell directly. ![]() King has no defense for the original’s followup. The original film spawned a whole franchise, with 10 additional movies being made the latest was released this March. Many of the films King has publicly denounced are adaptations of his work, but the author is actually a fan of the original 1984 “Children of the Corn.” Based on his short story about a cult of murderous children in a remote Nebraskan town, the original film was helmed by Fritz Kiersch, and King “thought they did a pretty good job on that,” as he put it in a 2016 Deadline interview. Image Credit: Courtesy Everett Collection In April 2023, after fellow writer Megan Abbott declared on Twitter that the 1980 flick is “still the best movie of all time,” King quote tweeted her with a blunt “Sorry, no.” Hopefully he’ll explain his reservations some other time, preferably in a knock out fight with Scorsese. Sure, it’s a stretch to say that King has outright declared his hate for “Raging Bull.” But the author doesn’t seem to be fond of Martin Scorsese’s well-loved biopic of boxer Jake LaMotta either. Image Credit: ©United Artists/Courtesy Everett Collection Lester’s “Firestarter” and Brett Leonard’s “The Lawnmower Man.” These include the author’s criticisms of King adaptations, from Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” to Mark L. Listed in no particular order, here are 23 films that Stephen King has disliked or given a bad review. But does the “if you can’t say something nice” adage really apply to the guy who dreamed up “Misery”? King has brutally picked apart the merits of Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” and Michael Bay’s “Transformers,” even calling Tim Burton’s “Mars Attacks!” a “benchmark of awfulness.” They’re harsh words, sure. The Maine-born writer slips in his film opinions from time to time, typically reacting to onscreen interpretations of his work but occasionally taking aim at whatever he’s seen latest. Outspoken as ever, King regularly takes to social media to share his thoughts on politics and the state of pop culture. ![]() But these days, he mainly contributes to Hollywood through carefully crafted books and snide little tweets. Romero’s “Creepshow” (1982) and Mary Lambert’s “Pet Sematary” (1989). King has found reasonable success in adapting his own work see the screenplays for George A. The pair’s “In the Tall Grass” novella became a Netflix movie in 2019, and Hill enjoyed his own success with Scott Derrickson’s 2022 “The Black Phone” adaptation.Īlmost all of King’s titles boast the imaginative nightmares for which the author is renowned: a perverse pull for audiences that for good or bad is now tried and true. King has teamed up with his son Joe Hill to produce even more cinematic fodder in recent years. Horror’s reigning titan of literary terror has written more than 60 books and 200 short stories: many of them rooted in King’s signature strangeness and the believable humanity that turned 2017’s “ It” into a global sensation. There’s no shortage of material to go around, of course. From Rob Reiner and David Cronenberg to Mike Flanagan and Andy Muschietti, genre filmmakers have clamored to take on King’s words for decades. Stephen King is among history’s most frequently adapted writers, up there with Charles Dickens, the Brothers Grimm, and William Shakespeare for inspiring the most successful page-to-picture creations. So although it is a popularly known term, it has a specific application in survey research and it won’t always be relevant to your market research data. Additionally, the respondents volunteer for the panel in return for benefits, so they are not randomly selected from the population size at large. It’s not appropriate if the sample has been selected in a non-random way, for example when you use an opt-in research panel.Ī research panel sample is typically a quota sample, where participants are selected because they have particular characteristics. That means the survey respondents have been selected at random from your population as a whole and every population member has a known, non-zero probability of being included. Margin of error is used when you have a random or probability sample. The larger your random sample (the more responses you get), the smaller your margin of error will be and the more confidence you’ll have that your sample results are reliable.įind out how big your sample size should be with our free calculator When is margin of error used? A plus or minus 2 percentage points means that if we ask this question using a simple random sample 100 times, 95 of those times it would come out at the estimated value plus or minus 2 points. Margin of error provides a clearer understanding of what a survey’s estimate of a population characteristic means. The figure tells you that the true result may differ from the percentage figure provided, and how much more or less than the stated percentage the reality might be. ![]() Researchers use this to provide additional information that helps you interpret their results and to understand how the study was carried out. You’ll recognize it because it’s expressed with a plus and minus sign together, e.g. Margin of error is information that’s provided alongside the results of a piece of research, such as a poll, survey, or a scientific study. This is made all the worse by the fact that you have a SMG that comes standard with your loadout every level but it only has 30 rounds and no back up mags. so if you miss which is pretty likely unless you can get close enough behind someone enough to know how long its been since they last showered with a quick sniff, there is a chance you can miss and bring down the wrath of the 3rd Reich and later the human horde that is the Soviets. It wouldn't be so bad if your side weapons could pick up the slack, your pistol is the only silenced weapon in the game and while the ammo isn't terribly rare, its fire rate is. You know what its not good for? Indoor claustrophobic environments where any room could have a whole clown car's worth of enemies inside ready to bum rush you if you managed to alert the horde. The real issue comes from the level layout, your main weapon is the sniper rifle, which again to its credit functions really well and is satisfying to use. Most WWII are set in gloomy European environments with drab color pallets. The Environment, Visually, not terrible, more of a product of its time. Couple that with the odd and jerky movement of the AI and battles can be a massive slog when you get into a real fire fight at range. As if hoping without reason that if they dump enough 7.62 into a brick wall the bullets will eventually dig a path for the others to eventually light you up. It seems like their pathfinding couldn't quite keep up with their environments (I'll get into that in a sec) so they constantly get stuck in small loops not quite knowing how to get to you but that won't top them from trying to mag dump you from across the literal map. They can spot you from across the literal ruins of a chaotic battlefield and less time that it takes you to pull the trigger on your rifle. The most polite thing to call them would be an Idiot Savant. To call it bad would be an understatement. The AI, wowzers, they feel and act like they were programmed by an actual lobotomite who are doing an even worse impression of the person that coded them. The game feels like it was made by two separate teams, one wanted to make the ultimate sniper experience for the time (of the original release) and the other wanted to check off as many boxes as they could to try to mimic a call of duty game. The sounds of the bullet traveling at sonic speeds really help you anticipate the raw destructive force of such an object colliding with a soft target followed by a fantastic payoff with the X-Ray camera to really drive home how lethal the player is. Just as good as I remembered honestly, its so entertaining to watch a bullet travel over 200 yards to dome a target right in the eyes. Now that we can clearly see everything, we are one step closer to understanding what it all means.” The evolving centromere “Truly finishing the human genome sequence was like putting on a new pair of glasses. “In the future, when someone has their genome sequenced, we will be able to identify all of the variants in their DNA and use that information to better guide their health care,” said Adam Phillippy, one of the leaders of T2T and a senior investigator at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) of the National Institutes of Health. They also found about 2 million additional variants in the human genome, 622 of which occur in medically relevant genes. Of the protein-coding genes, the T2T team found about 2,000 new ones, most of them disabled, but 115 of which may still be expressed. The consortium’s gapless version of all 22 autosomes and the X sex chromosome is composed of 3.055 billion base pairs, the units from which chromosomes and our genes are built, and 19,969 protein-coding genes. The sequencing and analysis were performed by a team of more than 100 people, the so-called Telemere-to-Telomere Consortium, or T2T, named for the telomeres that cap the ends of all chromosomes. Four companion papers, including one for which Altemose is co-first author, also will appear online April 1 in the journal Nature Methods. A paper explaining how the sequencing was done will appear in the April 1 print edition of the journal Science, while Altemose’s centromere paper and four others describing what the new sequences tell us are summarized in the journal with the full papers posted online. “Before, we just had the blurriest picture of what was there, and now it’s crystal clear down to single base pair resolution.”Īltemose is first author of one paper that describes the base pair sequences around the centromere. “Uncovering the complete sequence of these formerly missing regions of the genome told us so much about how they’re organized, which was totally unknown for many chromosomes,” said Nicolas Altemose, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, and co-author of four new articles describing the completed genome. Variability within this area might potentially provide fresh information about how our ancestors developed in Africa. The new DNA sequences, among other things, provide previously unknown details about the area around the centromere, which is where chromosomes are seized and tugged apart as cells split, ensuring that each “daughter” cell acquires the right amount of chromosomes. ![]() ![]() The recently completed genome, termed T2T-CHM13, is a significant improvement over the existing reference genome, GRCh38, which is used by physicians and scientists to check for disease-linked mutations as well as to study the evolution of human genetic diversity. However, a three-year-old team has finally filled in the gaps in the remaining DNA, giving scientists and physicians the first complete, gap-free genome sequencing. ![]() In actuality, almost 20 years later, approximately 8% of the genome has never been completely sequenced, due to highly repetitive DNA segments that are difficult to match with the rest of the genome. Scientists lied a little when they revealed the entire sequencing of the human genome in 2003. Repetitive DNA sequences around centromere show history of human genetic variation. The entire genome consists of more than 3 billion nucleotides. Sequencing the last 8% of the human genome has taken 20 years and the invention of new techniques for reading long sequences of the genetic code, which consists of the nucleotides C, T, G and A. |
